Summer is my favorite season. It conjures up memories of lime popsicles, tennis lessons, fireworks, and lately, Dave Matthews concerts. In honor of summer and my love (or obsession, you decide), with DMB, here are some of my favorite songs and lyrics:
#41 – Why won’t you ever be glad? It melts into wonder. I came in praying for you. Why won’t you run in the rain and play? Let the tears splash all over you.
This is my all-time favorite Dave Matthews song, and the instrumentals are gorgeous. I love the way that he urges us to take a look at our lives and find contentment and fulfillment from deep within.
Lie in Our Graves – I can’t believe that we would lie in our graves, wondering if we had spent our days living well. I can’t believe we would lie in our graves, wondering what we might have been.
This is another song that reminds me to find joy in each moment, and seek an abundant life.
Seek Up – Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking. Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay. Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead. For soon we will find our lives swept away.
This song encourages me to cling to my faith, hold onto my feelings, and relinquish the expectations I place upon myself since life is short.
Sister – Passing time with you in mind, it’s another quiet night. Feel the ground against my back, counting stars against the black. Think about another day, wishing I was far away. Wherever I dreamed I was, you were there with me. Sister, I hear you laugh, my heart fills up, keep me please. Sister, when you cry, I feel your tears running down my face. Sister, sister, keep me. I hope you always know it’s true. I would never make it through. You could make the sun go dark just by walking away.
I’ve seen this song performed live twice, and it’s absolutely breathtaking…it often brings me to tears. I can only hope and pray that if my brother heard this song, he’d think of me.
I can’t wait until August!
